About the Artist:

Dafna Rehavia is an Israeli born feminist, activist artist. She explores the docile body as the site of specific behaviors that she defines as rituals. Her works symbolize the ways authoritative discourses trap our bodies. Rituals and the Docile Body sheds light on the bodily practice and performance of “natural,” accepted, cultural, religious and political acts and habits. The exhibit has three bodies of work that deal with religious and political rituals “Menstrual Wedding Dress’”; “ConStricted”; and “Present-Absent: De-Constructed”. A dance ritual performance and participatory workshop will take place during the opening night, inviting audience members to join the artist in turning menstrual pads into ‘flowers’.

Rehavia received her B.F.A & BED from Beit-Berl, Hamidrasha Israel, M.A. CAT at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, and her Ph.D at the University of Derby, UK. Rehavia’s work has been exhibited internationally, in Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, New York City, Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago and more.
